When it became clear to us that God was calling us to move to Dallas we picked up the mantra “burn the ships” meaning we wanted to follow Him without looking back. I was reminded of when Jesus called the disciples and how when He said, “Follow me” they left what they were doing and followed Him. They didn’t look back, they didn’t try to finish this or that they just simply followed Him who called them.
Matthew 4:18-22 18 As he was walking by the Sea of Galilee he saw two brothers, Simon (called Peter) and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea (for they were fishermen). 19 He said to them, “Follow me, and I will turn you into fishers of people!” 20 They left their nets immediately and followed him. 21 Going on from there he saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee and his brother John, in a boat with their father Zebedee, mending their nets. Then he called them. 22 They immediately left the boat and their father and followed him.
We are thankful for His calling and we pray that we will faithfully follow where He leads us without looking back.
This week Kelly and I attended a local church just 1 mile from our apartment, First Baptist Dallas. We could not have shown up on a better day as they were kicking off a three day Old Fashioned Revival event. We went back Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday night. It was fun to get to meet people each night and hear such great messages. The highlight for us each night was the Gold City Quartet who led music, singing old southern gospel classics. I believe that we found our church to connect and grow with while here in Dallas. God is Good. We really wanted to find a church close to us and not have to drive in the city very far, being close will allow us to connect to many great events and build some great relationships.
We are finding that everything around is about 15 minutes to get to except when you hit traffic then it doubles. We found a simple street (no freeways) route for Kelly to get to her school and it is a simple drive and takes her about 20 minutes to cover the 6 miles through the city. Kelly had two days of new employee orientation and had a great time getting to know the other new employees. She definitely traveled the furthest distance to become a teacher for the Highland Park School District. She also dropped her first y’all this week so we are adapting well to the south!
This week we also found out that getting prescriptions in TX from out-of-state doctors can be a challenge as Kelly needed to refill a prescription and they could not do it here. She spent many hours on the phone with the clinic back in WI (of course her Dr was out on vacation) and the pharmacy here in TX. The medication ran out on Wednesday and she felt the immediate effects of not having it. We are grateful to say that her doctor checked his messages while on vacation and sent the needed paperwork to the pharmacy and today (Saturday) she was able to get the medicine. Pray that it kicks and she can recover from not having it for a few days. Also please pray that she will be able to find a local primary care doctor here. As you know her medical journey is not an easy one and it is always very hard to switch to new doctors who need to learn about her and her journey.
We saw God’s goodness this week as I was blessed with a small scholarship to help purchase the last of the needed books for my first semester and a few reference books that I will need throughout my studies. We also accepted an offer on our house in Gilman. Please pray that the inspections will go well, the buyers will be satisfied and the closing can happen soon.
Thank you all for your constant support and prayers. We can feel it as we journey this path following God’s calling each day. This week will bring new adventures and challenges but we know and we trust that God is faithful and He is forever good! I love this verse and am so thankful for the Word of God which is working in our lives today.
Philippians 1:6 For I am sure of this very thing, that the one who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus.
