As I sit here this morning from a 10th floor apartment in the heart of Dallas, TX, I’m so amazed at the Goodness of God. The calendar has flipped to August and we have officially lived inDallas for 6 days! The journey of walking God’s Story in our lives has been an up and down path over the last year but we know without doubt that God is Good and that He will never leave us or forsake us. Never did I think I’d be a resident of Dallas, TX, nor a student at Dallas Theological Seminary, but God has clearly directed our paths to bring us here, so here we go!
We started our journey south one week ago after visiting with friends and family on the way to Dallas. We arrived Monday, July 27th, at noon and the temperature was 102, but God blessed us with an unloading area fully in the shade of a large Oak Tree (it was still hot-but the shade helped). With the help of my brother and his wife we were completely unloaded in 2 hours with everything into our new 1-bedroom, 10th floor apartment on the campus of DTS. It is truly a blessing to be here.
We quickly got to unpacking and making lists of things that were going to be needed to settle in. Next was a quick dinner at Chipotle (which is across the street) and off to find a Walmart to pick up a few needed items. Everything truly is bigger in TX! The Walmart has a parking garage and the Sam’s Club sits below the Walmart with an escalator between them. By Monday night we were able to sleep in our own bed in our new home.
Tuesday brought more unpacking and finding a place for everything along with our first meal cooked in our new home. We picked up our packages that had been shipped here at the DTS mail service (the on campus post office – letters come right to our building mailbox but packages get delivered to a different building). Thank goodness the mail room has a little wagon you can use to haul things so I didn’t have to make multiple trips. My brother and I were like two little boys hauling stuff in a little wagon, me pulling and him walking along and balancing things! It was quite the picture of brotherly team work.
Wednesday was our day to explore campus and attend the weekly Chapel Service. The campus shuts all classes and offices down from 11-12 on Wednesdays so everyone can attendthe service. It was such a cool experience and we got to meet some of the staff. We also got aquick tour and history lesson of DTS at the Legacy Center with Don who has worked at DTS for over 50 years! We visited the bookstore and got a few of the books I GET to read this first semester. We said goodbye to my brother and his wife Wednesday night as they headed back to WI. It was such a blessing to have them travel down with us and help us settle in.
Thursday brought Kelly’s first day at her new job. I’m sure she will write more about this, but let’s just say we are truly blessed to have her in such an amazing school district. While she was attending her half day orientation I ran some errands and washed the car. I thought that I’d be smart and park under the shade tree in our parking lot. Let’s just say that there is a reason thatthey were open even though it was hot. The mocking birds did a number and the car was their number one target of the night.
We spent the rest of the week arranging things on the wall, setting up and building small book cases and just settlinginto our new home. We have gotten to meet many of the neighbors and it feels like home. Speaking of homes, we accepted an offer on the sale of our WI home yesterday! Please pray that the inspections will go well and the sale will go smoothly.
God is so Good through everything we face in life and we can trust in Him to provide us with everything we need in His perfect timing. We are reminded of Romans 8:28 “And we know that for those that love God all things work together for good, for those that are called according to His purpose.”
